Oskar Hernández

Oskar Hernández is an Information professional and a PhD Candidate in Social Studies of Science and Technology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). He holds a Master’s degree in Information and Knowledge Society from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), and previous Bachelor’s degrees in Information Science and Social Work. He currently manages the Serials Library at the UAB Faculty of Communication Studies, and is a teaching assistant in Information Science at the UOC.

Starting in 2017, he conducts his part-time doctoral thesis in the STS-b, Barcelona Science and Technology Studies research group, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Miquel Domènech (UAB Department of Social Psychology) and Prof. Dr. Fernando Vilariño (UAB Computer Vision Center). His research focuses on the transformations of libraries as agents of community building and social innovation through the use of digital technologies. He studies how co-design and co-creation practices in cultural public spaces, such as libraries, can reinforce citizen engagement on public issues and strengthen social cohesion. His present work focuses on certain socio-technical innovation infrastructures, specifically living labs, that have recently emerged in library contexts. He is currently conducting research on the BiblioLab Program, the innovation strategy framework of the Public Library Network of the Barcelona Provincial Council (Diputació de Barcelona), which counts with 225 libraries and 10 bookmobiles, covering a population of 5.6 million inhabitants.
